I have dedicated this piece to my friend Alex Ross, a very talented double bass player and wonderful human being who was tragically killed in a collision with a drunk driver in December 2018.
We met each other at the Purcell School when were both fourteen and became firm friends over the four years we were there together. I originally wrote Drop, Slow Tears in 2017 as part of a larger work for string quartet based on hymnal texts but after hearing of Alex's death I decided to dedicate a choral version of it to him.
Sung by friends of Alex from the Purcell School, including myself.
Recorded live in concert from the Alex Ross Memorial Concert at the Royal Academy of Music in 2019.
